The parish church of West Ham was established in 1135 and rebuilt in Early English Style in the reign of Henry II (1154-89).

Nestled in beautifully maintained grounds with the Welsh hills as a backdrop and the Afon Carno gently flowing nearby, St John the Baptist is a haven of peace and tranquillity.

One of the most striking aspects about St Martin within Ludgate exterior is its tall, sharp leaded spire, which when seen from the lower part of Fleet Street, is a deliberate foil to the massive rounded dome of St Paul's Cathedral.

St James church is designed in Gothic style by renowned church architect JS Crowther from Manchester (he later restored Manchester Cathedral).

Christ Church was built as an Anglican parish church in 1870, and designed by W&G Audsley.

In 1542 Henry VIII rebuilt the church already on this site to keep plague victims from being carried through his palace grounds because at the time it was an isolated spot in the fields.

For more than 1,400 years, a cathedral dedicated to St Paul has stood at the highest point in the city.

St Andrew by the Wardrobe was the last city church rebuilt by Sir Christopher Wren after the Great Fire of London.
