St Mary’s is both an historic and active church that plays a major role in the life of the Long Crendon community.

On the east coast of Suffolk and looking out to sea, it is rich in history, and there is a magnificent window by John Piper in memory of Benjamin Britten.

Sandwiched between the M25 and the A1M is the comparatively calm oasis of South Mimms (or Mymms) and its medieval flint church.

This church is famous because it is completely covered in religious scenes created with beautiful venetian glass 'tessarae' mosaics and marble in the style of Ravenna in Italy, it is visited by people from across the world.

Described as 'more curious than beautiful' by Nikolaus Pevsner in his book 'Buildings of England, 1954' the church is indeed full of interest and mystery.

The house has a wonderful atmosphere of calm, the people using it for worship are warm and friendly, and visitors leave feeling an inner peace.

Wickhamford's handsome limestone church makes a wonderful composition with the large half timbered manor house next door, bought in 1549 by the Sandys family.
