St John's is an east London landmark, standing at the centre of Stratford, one of the world's most multi cultural places.

Built in 1958 by the architects Broadhead and Royle who wrote ‘the style stems from the early Christian columned halls of the 4th century but cannot be honestly placed in any historical style other than mid 20th century'.

Stilton has always been an important place geographically, situated at the side of a major Roman road, Ermine Street, and the area around Stilton and Folksworth was also the site of a major Prisoner of War Camp from Napoleonic times.

There has been a church here for over a thousand years, dedicated to the memory of Alfege, the Archbishop of Canterbury who was martyred on this site in 1012.

The first recorded reference to a church in Bulwell is in 1171, however there is a strong tradition which suggests that up to four different churches have stood on this same hill since Saxon times.

The parish was created in 1883 from land formerly belonging to the parish of Gedling and the church itself was consecrated in 1885.

The parish church of West Ham was established in 1135 and rebuilt in Early English Style in the reign of Henry II (1154-89).

St Nicholas church was begun in 1087 and is believed to be the oldest church in Rutland.

The foundation stone of this high Victorian church was laid in October 1882, it was designed by William Knight, the architect of St Andrew’s Church, Mansfield Road, Nottingham.

Opened in 1905, the church is famous for its 1966 carvings at the top of the pillars by the sculptor Witold Gracjan Kawalec, representing Work, Peace, Mercy, Hope, Life, Guidance, Humility, Justice, Grace and Music.
