St Mary's was built almost entirely in the early 14th century, at the same time as Sir John de Broughton was building the adjacent castle.

St Giles, situated in the tiniest of hamlets, is the birthplace of Stephen Langton, Archbishop of Canterbury from 1207-1228 and a central figure in the drafting and signing of Magna Carta in 1215 at Runnymede.

The old church of All Saints has become a place of pilgrimage and is popular for ramblers, hence the adopted name of The Ramblers Church.

The church is situated centrally in Keswick and stands out by virtue of its tall spire.

The first Christian converts were baptised in the River Derwent in 627 AD by St Paulinus, one of the second batch of Roman missionary monks sent by Pope Gregory to convert Britain.

Situated within open countryside with views to the Lakeland fells, St Michael';s church lies on a mound in the centre of a circular graveyard, perhaps a pre Christian site.

The building was erected in 1811 to a design by the Revd William Jenkins, one of John Wesley’s itinerant preachers who combined preaching with chapel design.
