Situated in the valley beside the river Nadder, there has been a church here serving as a centre for Christian worship for at least a thousand years and it is believed that the first church may have been built soon after the founding of Shaftesbury Abbey in about 875.

The building was originally known as the London Street Mission House and the first foundation stone was laid in 1800.

St Mary’s is a beautiful church, in a beautiful setting and many people come from far and wide to enjoy the building, its history, and its sense of peace and tranquillity.
