An impressive plain but interesting church dating from early 14th century built on a knoll overlooking the small village.

A beautiful 13th century church nestled along the banks of the River Alwen in a landscape that inspired William Wordsworth.

A fine example of a medieval church with later alterations and additions, St Mary’s is light and attractive and includes a lady chapel and two notable memorials.

The churchyard here is famously said to have inspired Thomas Gray to write his Elegy in a Country Churchyard in 1750, and he is buried close to the east wall of the church.
