Previous to this church stood The Old Mission Church, an iron building formerly situated in Burton by Lincoln having 'recently been used as an infant school and purchased for £30 in 1897'.

A rather unassuming village church on the outside but containing a wealth of interest and heritage within its walls, but there also lies a hidden story of murder and intrigue.

Built around 1100, Putley church was restored in 1875 with high Victorian reredos, with some Roman remains still incorporated.

Famous for the Morgan family of the Morgan Motor Company, Henry Morgan was the rector from 1871.

This quaint 13th century church stands at the heart of the historic parish of Ordsall and is visible over the river Idle for a scenic stroll and view.

There has been a long tradition in Britain of dissenting Christians worshipping outside the Church of England, and in that respect Newport was no different.

By 1816 a brick shed on the site had been converted for use as a mortuary chapel and when the graveyard was enlarged in 1871 it was replaced by the small brick building which we see today.
