Beautiful medieval church in open Suffolk countryside, birthplace of John Winthrop, Pilgrim Father and First Governor of Massachusetts.

There has been a church on the present site since medieval times, but our present church dates from 1720, with close ties to Buildwas Abbey and the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site, we are in a stunning location overlooking the River Severn.

Built of local red brick with stone banding from the previous church on the same spot, St Stephen includes a beautiful rounded apse with stained glass windows at the east end.

It may come as a surprise to you that St Mary's is only about 150 years old.
