There are two distinct reasons for coming here. The rare medieval wooden effigies and the association with the great nonconformist missionary William Carey (1761–1834).

The earliest record of Christianity in the area round Keighley dates from 867 AD, when Archbishop Wulfhere of York fled from marauding Danes to Addingham.

Built as a private chapel for the Hibbert family, St Catherine’s has a unique oddity; its furnishings are all older than the building itself.

Ripon Cathedral has a history stretching back almost fourteen centuries, offering an unbroken tradition of witness to the Christian faith, both in the city of Ripon and across North Yorkshire.
