St Cuthbert’s is a small church with Norman features, a striking 12th century tower and arches, fascinating glass, memorials and evidence of early wall paintings.

The Church of the Good Shepherd is a thriving church for everyone.

On this site Katherine Swynford, mistress of John of Gaunt, lived and worshipped, come and find our about their famous love affair and court scandal at the Katherine exhibition.

Described by Pevsner as ‘one of the most exciting Cheshire churches’ with plenty of bosses and also some dainty openwork pendants’.

A local custom here is that the church gates are closed and tied with twine whilst a couple are being married in the church and untied after the groom has lifted his bride over the gates; this symbolising the beginning of a happy life together.

The old church of All Saints has become a place of pilgrimage and is popular for ramblers, hence the adopted name of The Ramblers Church.

The present church is Victorian, built in the 1860s and dedicated in 1868, but it replaced a Norman church about which, unfortunately, very little is known.

The church is of Norman origin but has undergone considerable changes to its layout over the years.
