The church is an ancient, Grade II* Listed building. From its humble beginning, being recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, it has a 15th century tower, it has passed through a period of neglect before being restored in 1843 and then again in 1964 following a disastrous fire. There is an interesting brass memorial (1928), to US Navy Officers who died in the R38 airship crash, on the north wall of the nave.
