St Chad's is a superb Victorian church, built on an ancient site, and has a unique Norman font, and windows and mosaic reredos by Henry Holiday.

The church tower is a landmark for a long way around, and was rebuilt in 1861 to the original medieval designs, but in blue lias stone, rather than the Ham stone from which the rest of the church is built.

Generally agreed to be one of the finest churches in Lincolnshire, St Helen's was already in the front rank before the Victorian architect GF Bodley added a sumptuous chancel, with painted vault and lavishly gilded reredos, in his late 19th century restoration.

The church is set in delightful rural setting and is known for its spectacular Flemish woodwork and peaceful situation.

The ancient cross in the churchyard is 15th century and two giant yews were grown to provide soldier’s bows and are said to be among the oldest in the diocese.

This is the oldest site of continuous Christian worship in Britain and stands over the place where Alban, Britains first saint, was buried after giving his life for his faith over 1700 years ago.

The church was completed in May 1864, the north aisle was added around 1890.

The greatness of St James lies in its fine proportion, inventive and varied details, with an interior that is an exercise in chaste simplicity, beauty is in the traceried windows, reredos and Morris & Company window.
