St Mary Magdalene’s Lady Chapel was built by the infamous Roger Mortimer as a chantry chapel for himself and his mistress, Queen Isabella. The Roman origins of the site has resulted in the architectural feature of the chancel being much higher than the nave.

The interior has examples of early 15th century choir stalls, misericords and angels from Wigmore Abbey. However, in addition there are also new misericords dedicated to ‘Flossie’, life time landlady of the Sun Inn and ‘Doug’ the local butcher.

There can also be found a vainglorious monument to General Sir Banestre Tarleton (American War of Independence).
