The church was built between 1898 and 1900 to a design by the Lancaster architects Austin & Paley. It cost £2,358and provided seating for 180 people. The church was originally a chapel of ease to Holy Triniyt, Bolton le Sands, becoming a parish church in its own right in 1934.

St Luke's is built of sandstone, with red tiled roofs and a timber porch. A wooden bellcote protrudes from the roof of the tower.

Inside the church is a three bay arcade with circular pillars. The font dates from 1905, is in white marble and is in the form of an angel carrying a scallop shell.
