Founded over 130 years ago, Bakers of Danbury Ltd is a highly respected traditional contractor that prides itself on attention to detail and the quality of the works carried out.

Our directly employed workforce includes stonemasons, bricklayers, plasterers, carpenters and joiners and is regularly supplemented with specialist sub-contractors including metal workers, stained glass specialists, architectural conservators and decorators.

Specialising in conservation, restoration and alteration of historic buildings, churches and ancient monuments; we have long been associated with many of the region’s fine buildings. Our projects have recently won the following prestigious awards:

  • RICS East of England 2017 award for Building Conservation (restoration of a redundant church, Quay Place, Ipswich)
  • RIBA East 2017 award for Conservation (conservation works to St Albans Abbey)

Our highly skilled staff, many of whom have been with the company in excess of twenty years, are experienced in traditional construction methods that have been passed through generations since the founding of the company. This experience continues to be handed down to the younger generations today. Our projects benefit from our in-house stone masonry and joinery workshops which offer specialist stone cleaning and stone carving, woodcarving and architectural timberwork as well as full design/manufacture service of bespoke joinery and furniture.
