Barwin’s experience is extensive, it has worked on many churches and is an approved installer of numerous specialist materials principally stone, brick and concrete.

Barwin has also worked with The Royal Parks and with English Heritage on the restoring historic monuments over the years.

Recently Barwin has been expanding throughout the south east and widening its range of services. It is proud of its success, with turnover increasing by over 70 per cent in the last five years. It employs over 50 staff and it has recently become a member of the Trust’s Professional Trades Directory.

Barwin was contracted to carry out the repair, restoration and cleaning of the 1853- built, grade 2-listed Gothic style St Pancras and Islington Cemetery in East Finchley, north London. It is the third largest single cemetery in London.

Among many tasks, Barwin restored the chapel spire including installation of ‘helibar’ repairs, made specialist lime pointing to the entire external façade of the chapel.

It also replaced Kentish rag stone dressings, made window arch repairs, rebuilt brick walls with stone details, and removed cement mortar from stonework and applied new mortar.

Michael Stokes, managing director of heritage building contractor Bolt & Heeks based in Essex, asked Barwin to take on the exterior restoration of the St Pancras cemetery.

He comments, “Barwin took the lead with detailed surveys and schedules of specialist repair works and methods which were agreed with us. The Barwin team, from the contracts manager to the site personnel worked extremely well in all aspects to help provide a successful project for all parties. Since this contract we have engaged Barwin on other heritage projects and would recommend it for specialist stone work both new and repairs, brickwork, and cleaning.”

Wayne Sampson, the owner and managing director of Barwin Properties and Cleaning says: “We are very fortunate with the staff we have in place who are all  skilled and knowledgeable. Our existing clients are loyal and we attract new business through our professionalism and commitment.

We wish to do more exterior works on churches in London and the south east.'
