Host a tea party

Host a tea party and show your love for churches

Whether it’s in your garden, in your church or even on Zoom – every cup of tea you serve will help us to keep churches and chapels open. You can hold a simple tea party with a delicious selection of scones, jams and cream or something fancy with sandwiches and fabulous cakes. The choice is up to you!

Your support will mean that we can say “yes” to more churches in need.

Hosting a tea party is as easy as 1,2,3

All you need is some tea, some cakes and of course some people who are happy to help by making a small donation. You can hold your tea party on a date to suit you in your church, churchyard, in your home, garden or even online on Zoom.

Our National Churches Trust Tea Party pack contains everything you need to hold a great event that everyone will enjoy.

  • 1 Set a date and invite your guests

Your pack includes a lovely invitation template. We have also included some suggested text for emails which you may find useful. We suggest that you ask people to donate in advance and have supplied wording you can use. If you can, do invite your local Vicar, Priest or Minister! Please let us know your plans so we can help promote your tea party.

  • 2 Dish up some inspiration

In celebration of the Queen's Platinum Anniversary why not go traditional and plump for teatime favourites of scones, chocolate cake and cucumber sandwiches. Alternatively be daring and create your own unique flavours for something a little different. To add a dash more fun, hold a 'sconeathon' competition and invite your guests to vote their favourite scones? Download our tea party guide for a fun tea time quiz.

  • 3 Share your Tea Party with us

We would be delighted to feature your Tea Party news and photos on our website and e-newsletters to encourage other people to host their own ‘More Tea Vicar’ Tea Party and raise even money for churches and chapels. You can share your photos and tag us on social media posts with #moreteavicar. Send your tea party stories and photos to us at hello@nationalchurchestrust.org

  • 4 Donate the money you have raised

We suggest asking for a £20 donation per person. Once you have collected the money you have raised, it’s simple to send your Tea Party donation to us. Full details are included in our tea party fundraising pack.

A message from Claire Walker, our Chief Executive

"In 2020 we helped over 260 churches and chapels with funding but we could have helped many, many more if we had the money to meet the demand."

"By hosting a National Churches Trust Tea Party you will allow us to help more churches and chapels in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and keep them at the heart of local communities."

"Thank you so much for your support and I hope you have a great time at your Tea Party. Don't forget to send us some photographs!"

Thank you very much.

Other ways you can help

If you can’t host a National Churches Trust Tea Party right now, there may be other ways you can help. You could organise a collection at your church, hold a sponsored walk or talk, or devise your very own fundraising event? No event is too big or too small, and you can be sure that the money you raise will go to support the UK’s churches so they can stay open and be there for local people, now and in the future.
