13th century church where, in 1609, Henry Adams married Edith Squire, the ancestor of Presidents John Adams, John Quincy Adams and Calvin Coolidge, as well as of Samuel Adams, who also signed the US Declaration of Independence.

St Mary the Virgin is of 14th century origin with much refashioning in the 15th century but a drastic restoration of circa 1847 has somewhat obscured the architectural history. The Victorian renovation involved the rebuilding of the porch, roofs and most of the windows and the addition of the vestry.
