St Mary's has been in continuous use for worship since 1150. It has a chancel dating from this time. It is not clear when the nave was added but there is a Norman door aperture in its south side The tower is believed to be from the 15th century, but the north aisle was added a century earlier. There are remains of a staircase allowing access to the top of a rood screen (now demolished) from the north aisle.

The font probably dates from the 13th century and has an old Norman French inscription running round its rim. There is a plaque on the outer wall of the tower recording the Keysoe miracle when a stone mason who fell from the steeple was miraculously saved from death.
