The earliest parts of St Leonard dated from the late 12th century and the South tower was added in the 14th century. A branch of the Berkeley family became patrons in the early 17th century and the brick chapel to the North of the chancel was built shortly thereafter. In 1947 the nave roof collapsed and a new opening was created in the West wall of the brick chapel to allow worship to continue in the chancel.
