St Peter
Staunton on Arrow, Herefordshire
An interesting example of Gothic revival, St Peter’s sits on a prominent location next to the Norman motte and bailey with good stained glass, eclectic mix of window tracery, six bell peal and fine organ.
There is a three decker pulpit, pews with Gothicky bench ends, and a large private pew for the family of the estate, complete with large fireplace.
Of the Norman church that stood here before all that remains are the 'Shobdon Arches', reerected fragments of carving put up when the church was being done up in the 18th century. They are very weatherworn now but were once among the best work of their kind by the Herefordshire School of mason/sculptors.
