St John the Evangelist in Luton was designed by William Tozer of Teignmouth, an amateur architect in 1852. The church has simple pitched roofs with plain clay tiles. All walls are of grey limestone rubble with Bathstone dressings. It is simple in style with decorated and perpendicular details and a bellcote at the west end of the roof. Luton is a small rural community of around 50 inhabitants.

  • Sung Evensong takes place every 2nd and 5th Sunday at 6:30 pm (lasting approximately 1 hour).

  • Also traditional seasonal services for a rural farming community may be held including; Mother's Day, Harvest Festival, Plough Service, Carol Service.

  • The church also acts as a venue for the Devon Artists Network Open Studios Event, open daily and held during the 2nd & 3rd weeks of September. It has been known for a Farmer's or Produce Market to take place on one of the weekend open days.
