St John the Baptist
Our C13 church is located in the former village of Hillmorton, but for now on the outskirts of Rugby situated close to Hillmorton Locks.
The damp condition of the church means that it is far from ideal for existing use, let alone to accomodate more activity associated with the massive growth of the parish. Our lead nave roof, slate chancel and south roofs consistently leak in many places despite many repair efforts. The recent QIR confirms that the 300 year old lead sheet is worn out with horizontal tears. The problem is compounded by the presence of deathwatch beetle in the damp timbers. The works include repairs to the rainwater goods together with repairs to the west end storm water drainage including correction of flow from down-pipes to their soakaways. These represent a discrete component of a much larger scheme to make the building watertight.
