St James was a chapel of Saint John at Hackney until September 1863 when it was assigned a district. It became the parish church of the united parish of St James with Christ Church Clapton in June 1953, and one of the two parish churches of the new parish of Hackney in 1972.

St James is a welcoming and friendly community that love God and people. A very diverse atmosphere and speak many tongues. We have a choir which is led by professional musicians. Our services includes provision for children including they own junior church and junior choir.

Come and join us or visit.

Church of Sound is a regular gig in the church. A central speaker tower stands tall in the centre of the room, surrounded by musicians, audience and crew. Emphasis is placed firmly on the music: carefully selected, joyfully performed and cleanly recorded. We do our best to share this feeling of companionship with all those who walk through our big blue doors.
