St Cuthbert is a Grade I listed stone built church. Construction of the church began in 1165. In 1292 John Balliol paid homage to King Edward 1 for Scotland in the Church. In 1320 Robert the Bruce occupied and fortified the Church while besieging the Castle. The east bay of the chancel was added in the 14th Century, the west tower was added in 1837.
The grant will enable the church to repair roof copings, lead flashings, gutters and downpipes.
