St Nicholas
Grosmont, Monmouthshire
Grosmont sits within yards of the Wales/England border, here formed by the River Monnow. The church is cruciform, with an unusual octagonal tower.
St Bridget's was consecrated in 1207, and is said to be one of the oldest churches in continuous use in Wales.
The exterior of the church is a delight, with a massively buttressed, squat square tower and built, like the nave and porch, of red sandstone.
The church has an unusual mixture of seating, dating from the 16th to the 20th centuries.
Its greatest treasure is a late 15th century cope, found being used as a cover for the communion table in the 19th century, now mounted behind glass.
