St Augustine

Hexagonal in shape with pre-cast concrete frame, brick walls, pyramidical roof and clerestory lighting with a higher glazed lantern, St Augustine's was built in 1975 as the Mission Chapel for the GLC housing estate development on the former Hendon Aerodrome – now called Grahame Park - which consists of some 2,000 local authority and housing association homes. Designed by architects Biscoe and Stanton (who designed similar churches in the late 1960s, notable St Peter's Paddington and St Saviour's Little Venice), the church stands at the heart of Grahame Park social housing development, providing a focal point and wayfinder, between areas of high-rise flats and low-rise houses, and close to the pedestrianised shopping centre.

The grant will help the church carry out a full condition survey and strategic options assessment of the building including scheduling, cost analysis and concrete analysis.
