Church of the Holy Innocents

The church is a large High Victorian gothic building completed in 1851. The interior of the church is decorated with mural paintings of exceptional quality, which have been restored in recent years. John Betjeman described it as “the most complete Victorian church in the country”. Although only two miles from Gloucester, the church is scarcely visible from the road, and is surrounded by open parkland. However the spire soars above the trees and can be seen from many miles around.

Damp and mould threaten this Grade I Listed church with its heritage of Parry’s music and stunning frescos. The project will repair and maintain the rainwater goods (gutters, hoppers, and downpipes), repair flashing, repair mortar joints and insert lead roof baffles to stop further damage to the interior of the church. Where possible all gutters are to be reused.
