Churches, chapels and meeting houses throughout England are being urged to sign-up for the Ride+Stride churches fundraising day.
Ride+Stride is a sponsored bike ride or walk in which people visit churches, chapels and meeting houses. In 2014, the event’s organisers are aiming to raise over £1.5 million to pay for repair and restoration projects to historic places of worship.
The event takes place in English counties on Saturday 13th September 2014, and in London one week later on Saturday 20th September.
Churches , chapels and meeting houses wanting to participate need to register with their local County Churches Trust. Full details can be found on the Ride+Stride Near You page
Adventurer and writer Bear Grylls, who is also the Chief Scout, is supporting Ride+Stride. He said: “Many historic churches, chapels and meeting houses are battling to survive. Roofs leak, ancient timbers rot and medieval stonework crumbles. Now you can help by joining the Ride+Stride adventure on Saturday 13 September 2014, a sponsored bike ride and walk discovering beautiful churches, chapels and meeting houses which raises money for their repair and preservation.”
