Showcase your church's architecture and history to new visitors

Do you want to showcase your church's architecture and history to new visitors? If so, why not take part in Heritage Open Days, which celebrates England’s fantastic architecture and culture.

Taking part from 11 - 14 September 2014, Heritage Open Days sees buildings of every age, style and function throw open their doors. It is a once-a-year chance to discover architectural treasures and enjoy a wide range of tours, events and activities that bring local history and culture to life.

The event celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2014 and is staging three new-look organiser fairs in April, offering those planning an event a chance to come together with other participants and attend a range of talks and sessions.

Heritage Open Days coincides with Ride+Stride, a sponsored bike ride or walk in which people walk or cycle between churches and raise money to help repair and preserve historic churches. Ride+Stride takes place on Saturday 13 September, so why not consider opening your church for Heritage Open Days as well as making sure it is part of Ride+Stride.  Ride+Stride is supported by the National Churches Trust and organised by County Churches Trusts. You can find details of local organisers by visiting the Ride+Stride website.

The Heritage Open Days organiser fairs take place in Leeds on Tuesday 1 April, Bristol on Tuesday 8 April  and London on Wednesday 9 April .

They will include sessions on offer on how to plan the perfect guided tour, advice on how to create a press release that will have local media flooding your inbox, or thoughts on how to make your event more accessible for disabled visitors.

Places are limited, however, and although there are have some spaces left, they’re going fast.  Booking closes at midday on Friday 21 March and once your place is booked, you will receive a simple form that lets you choose which sessions are right for you.  Booking closes at midday on Friday 21 March, although session-choice forms can be completed after this date.

The fairs offer a great opportunity to meet the HODS team as well as other organisers; a chance to swap ideas, thoughts and plans.
