At some stage, probably in the 15th century, the roof pitch was reduced and was then raised back up to follow the line visible on the tower wall in the tactful restoration by GE Street in 1844.

The west front of the church faces the road and has a central door with a Norman arch and tympanum carved with dragons.

The south doorway, protected by Street's porch, has chevron ornament on the arch.

The bulky central tower has blind arcading at belfry level in the form of intersecting round arches that produces pointed arches.
